Social Work for Children and Families

Social work at Hunter Children's Clinics supports children and their families as part of our multidisciplinary team. Our social work team helps families navigate the practical and emotional side of caring for a child, alongside the clinical care your child receives from our paediatricians and allied health team. The team works particularly closely with children being looked after through our nurse practitioner (NP) pathway.

How our social work team helps

Our social work team works with children being looked after on our nurse practitioner (NP) pathway and attends the case conferences held for every child on that pathway. Support is offered to children and families on the NP pathway at no cost to the family.

This support can include helping with NDIS applications, supporting school discussions and other school supports, engaging with other services such as victims support, and assistance with Centrelink. Because every family is different, the focus is shaped around what would genuinely help your family at the time.

Our social work team

Our social work team is made up of Suzy Manning (Child Life Therapist) and Karen Bealing (Social Worker). The team works closely with our nurse practitioners and paediatricians, including within our collaborative ADHD care pathways, and helps families identify additional services and supports they may be eligible for.

Cost

For children on the nurse practitioner (NP) pathway, social work support is offered at no cost to the family. Our admin team can talk through what applies to your child when you get in touch.
