Under the expert leadership of Dr Anil Lakkundi, our team provides comprehensive, evidence-based care to support the optimal well-being and growth of our youngest patients.

Our clinic is designed to be a crucial support system for families as they transition from the hospital to home. We provide specialised medical oversight and monitoring for a range of neonatal concerns, including:
  • Growth and development monitoring for all infants, with a particular focus on premature, low birth weight, and late preterm babies.
  • Assessment of complex medical needs and coordination of care with other paediatric specialists.
  • Long-term follow-up for infants with a history of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admission, as well as those who did not require a NICU stay.
  • Guidance and support for parents regarding newborn health, milestones, and early childhood well-being.

Which babies is the Neonatology Baby Clinic for?

The clinic is for newborns and infants who need specialised medical oversight after going home from hospital. This includes growth and development monitoring, with a particular focus on premature, low birth weight and late preterm babies; assessment of complex medical needs and coordination with other paediatric specialists; and long-term follow-up after a stay in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Does my baby need to have been in NICU?

No. The clinic provides long-term follow-up for infants with a history of NICU admission and for those who did not require a NICU stay.

Do we need a GP referral?

Yes. A valid GP referral is required before a first appointment can be booked, and a referral is also required for a Medicare rebate. See our fees and referrals page for more detail.

How long does follow-up continue?

Dr Lakkundi provides developmental follow-up for babies to age two. Where care is needed beyond that, it can continue with one of our general paediatricians.
