Neonatologist
Dr Anil Lakkundi has been a Staff Specialist in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital, Newcastle since 2014. Dr Lakkundi previously trained in the United Kingdom, Melbourne and Sydney. He is passionate and proficient in all aspects of neonatal care, and has extensive experience providing intensive care support to extremely premature babies from 23 weeks gestation.
Dr Lakkundi offers follow up clinical care for babies until they reach two years of age, providing crucial developmental support. He has expertise in the management of surgical babies and has previously headed the Neonatal Emergency Transport Team at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital. Dr Lakkundi also provides consultation at the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit for antenatal problems. Dr Lakkundi has a keen interest in teaching and regularly instructs staff on Neonatal resuscitation and stabilisation in the Hunter New England area.
Dr Lakkundi holds a Master of Clinical Leadership and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Newcastle. He has been on various committees of the Royal Australian College of Physicians including the Examination Committee and the Advanced Training Committee. He is a Supervisor for advanced training for Neonatology and is the Neonatal Co-ordinator for the Health Education and Training Institute NSW Health.

Dr Lakkundi volunteers as a wildlife rescuer for Hunter Wildlife Rescue and WIRES and is a licensed reptile rescuer. In addition to English Dr Lakkundi can speak Kannada and Hindi.
