Paediatric Telehealth for Families Anywhere in Australia

Hunter Children's Clinics provides paediatric telehealth to families anywhere in Australia. Our clinicians hold national AHPRA registration, which means we can consult with your family by telehealth wherever you live, with in-person appointments available at our Merewether or Carrington clinics in Newcastle if you are ever able to travel.

Families we already see interstate

We already care for children and families in states including Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia by telehealth, alongside our New South Wales families.

How telehealth works, wherever you are

Telehealth appointments run on Coviu, a secure video platform designed for healthcare. At the start of each appointment we confirm your child's identity using three identifiers, and we confirm your location for safety. Appointments are generally pre-paid. Following your appointment, you receive the same standard of written report and care planning as an in-person visit.

Medication

Where medication is part of your child's care, arrangements are coordinated in line with the requirements of your state or territory. Prescribing rules differ between states and territories, so your clinician will explain what applies to your family and will work with your local GP where a local prescriber, examination, or pathology test is needed.

ADHD stimulant medications are Schedule 8 controlled medicines, and the rules for prescribing them differ from one state or territory to another. The Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) maintains an up-to-date summary of stimulant prescribing regulations across Australia and New Zealand, which our clinicians refer to. You can read it on the AADPA prescribing regulations page.

The role of your local GP

For families outside NSW, your local GP remains an important part of your child's care team. We work with your GP for anything that needs a local practitioner, such as a physical examination, pathology, or a local prescription, so that your child's care stays joined up close to home.

Assessment, review and reports

We can provide consultation, assessment, review, written reports and care planning by telehealth for families anywhere in Australia, including ADHD assessment and care and autism assessment. Some assessments benefit from an in-person visit, and your clinician will let you know if that applies to your child, alongside options for planning a trip to Newcastle if that is possible for your family.

How to book

New paediatric patients need a valid GP referral before an appointment can be booked. Once your GP has sent a referral, please call us on 02 4072 1877 to arrange a telehealth appointment. See our fees and referrals page for more detail, or read about how telehealth appointments run on our telehealth page.

Frequently asked questions

Can you see my child if we live outside NSW?

Yes. Our clinicians hold national AHPRA registration, so we can provide telehealth consultations to families anywhere in Australia. We already care for families in states including Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia.

Are your assessment reports accepted for NDIS and schools outside NSW?

Our reports are written to the same clinical standard wherever a family lives. NDIS and school requirements are set nationally and locally by those organisations rather than by us, so we recommend checking with your NDIS planner or your child's school about their specific requirements, and we are happy to discuss what our reports cover.
