Paediatric Telehealth Across Regional NSW
Hunter Children's Clinics provides paediatric telehealth across regional New South Wales. We do not have a clinic outside Merewether and Carrington in Newcastle: families in regional NSW are cared for by telehealth, with in-person appointments available at those two clinics where they are recommended.
Mid-North Coast
We see families from across the Mid-North Coast, including Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Kempsey and Taree, by telehealth. Ongoing reviews and follow-ups work well by video, saving families a long drive to Newcastle. Where an in-person visit is recommended, such as some initial autism assessments, we will let you know in advance so you can plan the trip.
New England and North West
Families around Tamworth, Gunnedah, Armidale, Moree and Narrabri can access our paediatricians and allied health team by telehealth. This suits ongoing ADHD reviews and therapy follow-ups particularly well. For assessments that benefit from an in-person visit, we work with you to plan a trip to Merewether or Carrington that covers as much as possible in one visit.
Far West and Riverina
We provide telehealth care to families around Wagga Wagga, Griffith and Broken Hill. Given the distance to Newcastle, we lean heavily on telehealth for this region, reserving in-person visits for the assessments and reviews where a face-to-face appointment makes a genuine clinical difference.
Other regional NSW
We also see families from other regional areas, including the Central West (Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst) and the Southern Tablelands and South Coast, by telehealth. If you are unsure whether telehealth or an in-person visit suits your child's needs, please call us and we can talk it through.
How telehealth works
Telehealth appointments run on Coviu, a secure video platform. We confirm your child's identity using three identifiers and confirm your location at the start of each appointment. You can read more on our telehealth page.
Planning your appointment
New paediatric patients need a valid GP referral before an appointment can be booked, wherever you live in NSW. Telehealth appointments are generally pre-paid, with the exception of plan managed NDIS bookings. If you are travelling for an in-person appointment, our admin team can help you plan timing when you book.
How to book
Once your GP has sent a referral, please call us on 02 4072 1877 to arrange a telehealth or in-person appointment. See our fees and referrals page for fee information. If you live outside NSW, please see our telehealth Australia-wide page.
Frequently asked questions
Can you see families anywhere in regional NSW?
Yes. We provide telehealth to families across regional New South Wales, including the Mid-North Coast, New England and North West, Far West and Riverina, and other regional areas. In-person appointments are available at our Merewether and Carrington clinics in Newcastle where recommended.
Is telehealth suitable for every appointment?
No. Some assessments and reviews are recommended in person, and your clinician will let you know when that applies. Telehealth is not appropriate for emergencies.
Do regional families still need a GP referral?
